Former President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies (1994–1996), the first woman and youngest person to hold that office in Italian history. Member of the Italian Parliament (1990–2001) and of the European Parliament (2001–2008). Honorary President of the World Green Design Organization; President of the Italy–China Development Foundation and the Italy–China Friendship Association. A longstanding advocate for Eurasian dialogue, sustainable development, and cultural exchange between Europe and Asia.
